Myth #1 – Only older women can get varicose veins

This assumption is false. According to MedicineNet.com, varicose veins can occur in anyone regardless of gender or age. While older age and genetics play a role in the development of varicose veins, anyone can develop them, including teens and men. Those who live a relatively sedentary lifestyle, have significant weight gain, and engage in prolonged standing, or those that are pregnant tend to be at risk for varicose veins.

Myth #2 – Men are not at risk for varicose veins

Of all the varicose vein myths, this one is too often forgotten about. This myth is false. Traditionally speaking, varicose veins plague middle-aged women. However, these bulging, twisting veins are not restricted to the female population. As many as 25 percent of men between ages 30 and 40 will develop varicose veins and half of all men age 70 and over likely already have them.

Myth #3 – Pregnancy causes varicose veins
